Canoe

These rubber boats, just as the bigger raft boats, are especially developed to stand the test of white waters. Canoe boats are for 2 or 3 people while raft boats can give place to 4-10 paddlers. In both cases the paddlers have to make sure that the boat swims by the speed that is needed to rush across the waves and the rapids. Our programmes are normally planned for 2 days. Two or three of our professional guides escort and help a group of 20-25 guests. Before the first paddling the guests are given a short training on paddling, steering and swimming techniques that can be practiced at the beginning of the trip, paddling on a low difficulty level section of the river. The higher difficulty level of the river gives some challenge and tests the members of the team on the following day.

WW = White Water
WW I: Easy
Fast moving water with riffles and small waves. Few obstructions, all obvious and easily missed with little training. Risk to swimmers is slight; self-rescue is easy.

WW II:  Pre-intermediate
Straightforward rapids with wide, clear channels which are evident without scouting. Occasional maneuvering may be required, but rocks and medium-sized waves are easily missed by trained paddlers. Swimmers are seldom injured but group assistance is helpful.

Class III: Intermediate
Rapids with moderate, irregular waves which may be difficult to avoid and which can swamp an open canoe. Complex maneuvers in fast current and good boat control in tight passages or around ledges are often required; large waves or strainers may be present but are easily avoided. Strong eddies and powerful current effects can be found, particularly on large-volume rivers. Scouting is advisable for inexperienced parties. Injuries while swimming are rare; self-rescue is usually easy but group assistance is required to avoid long swims.

Class IV: Advanced
Intense, powerful but predictable rapids requiring precise boat handling in turbulent water. Depending on the character of the river, it may feature large, unavoidable waves and holes or constricted passages demanding fast maneuvers under pressure. A fast, reliable eddy turn may be needed to initiate maneuvers, scout rapids, or rest. Rapids may require “must” moves above dangerous hazards. Scouting may be necessary the first time down. Risk of injury to swimmers is moderate to high, and water conditions may make self-rescue difficult. Group assistance for rescue is often essential but requires practiced skills. A strong eskimo roll is highly recommended.

WW V: Expert
Extremely long, obstructed, or very violent rapids which expose a paddler to added risk. Drops may contain large, unavoidable waves and holes or steep, congested chutes with complex, demanding routes. Rapids may continue for long distances between pools, demanding a high level of fitness. What eddies exist may be small, turbulent, or difficult to reach. Scouting is recommended but may be difficult. Swims are dangerous, and rescue is often difficult even for experts. A very reliable eskimo roll, proper equipment, extensive experience, and practiced rescue skills are essential.

WW VI: Extreme and Exploratory Rapids
These runs have almost never been attempted and often exemplify the extremes of difficulty, unpredictability and danger. The consequences of errors are very severe and rescue may be impossible. For teams of experts only, at favorable water levels, after close personal inspection and taking all precautions.

Our first day trip takes place on the middle section of the Soca river with a difficulty level WW I-II to make sure our guests learn and practice the techniques they are taught at our short training before the first paddling and to prepare them for the more exciting part that follows on the second day with a difficulty level of WW II-IV.

Rafting

Rafting is an individual sport on white waters, named after the boat that was originally developed for military purposes in America. A team of 4-6-8-10 people can paddle in these rubber boats. The team needs to work harmoniously together so that the boat can reach a certain speed that is neccessary for the steering of the boat. This makes rafting an ideal sport acitvity for team building. The steering is done by a qualified guide, who is sitting at the back of the boat, but of course the paddlers can help him as well. Rafting is the safest and therefore the most common and the most popular white water sport activity. From the age of 10 anybody with a minimum swimming skill can take part in a rafting trip. It can be a great fun for families or for those who have no experience at all in white water sports.

The more experienced and adventurous white water sport fans can try HYDROSPEED - that is basically a long swim in the river - with the help of a plastic board filled with air and a pair of flippers. Of course everyone is equipped with the usual safety outfit as well: life jacket, helmet and wet suit. You just ride the swimming board lying on your front and fight the waves by manoeuvreing with the help of your flippers. Be careful! You have to swim actively all way long unless you want to drift along like a leaf of a tree, so you need to be in excellent shape! The swimmers are escorted by guides in kayak boats.

Tubing

Tubing
We tame the Soca river on the inflatable donut-shaped Tube which has a similar material then the boats. Imagine it if you lay on huge tractor wheels which has a thin bottom that no hang too low in the cold Soca. Unlike the whitewater boats, since the Tub is completely round, not adhering to the rocks when it drift by the water. To shift round we have a webbed neoprene gloves which keep warm your hand.

Scuba diving

It is not only white water sports that can attract you in Slovenia but the beauty of nature, the life in the crystal clear water of the Soca river can amaze you if you try the river diving. You can look into the calm underwater wold in a wonderful canyon near the white water sections of the river and if you are lucky enough you can feed or even touch the fish. The average depth of the canyon is 5-6 meters but it reaches a 10-meter depth at some points. You need a basic diving certificate to be able to take part and it is strongly advised that you are in good shape because you have work hard swimming upstream for a while before you can have some rest at a small underwater bay. There are several stops at small bays where you can watch the fish and the wonderful view of the bottom of the river bed. The rays of the sun glitter through the crystal clear water and sometimes we come up on the surface to see some amazing small waterfalls. On your way back, swimming downstream makes you feel like you were flying under the water at high speed.
